How We Compare...
Reliability
When planning data backups, there are many factors to consider. First is the reliability of the process. At Stronghold Data, we have maintained a 100% track record for data restorations for ALL customers since our business was founded. We store your information in an encrypted format on an Isilon Clustered Storage System (the same type of data storage equipment in use by NASA, General Electric, Sony Pictures and many other large companies).
On the contrary, traditional backup procedures involve an onsite harddrive or tape drive with standard tapes such as DLT, AIT or some other form of magnetic media. Studies show that 70% of users of this type of backup have experienced a situation that left them unable to restore their critical data. It is also estimated that 50% of the tapes in use today that people are relying on for their information will be unable to restore their data. These are unacceptable statistics when your business is relying on these methods.
Costs
The next factor to consider is the cost. With Stronghold Data you have no recurring hardware or software costs to worry about. The backup software is included with our service and there are no hardware devices required at your site. With traditional backups all of these components have ongoing costs and the costs continue to escalate because you have to perform the daily task of managing an on-site backup procedure. Costs include the actual tape backup drive or backup harddrive, tapes, software and cleaning cartridges. When compared to Stronghold Data’s backup service, you would actually pay more to perform your own on-site backups in most cases.
Off-Site Location
When your company utilizes Stronghold Data’s backup service, your information is stored in a multi-million dollar data center located 85 feet underground inside a mined out rock quarry. Our facilities are actual concrete buildings within the carved out quarry. Complete with multiple fiber connections to various Tier 1 internet providers, two 2 Megawatt diesel generators, Liebert cooling systems, Eaton Powerware backup systems and 24 hour guards Stronghold Data is ready to handle and protect all of your business data and give you the peace of mind that your information is going to be safe and available to you at all times.
When performing their own backup procedures many people leave their tapes or drives at the same location as the servers they are backing up. In the event of any type of building disaster, the information on the backup tapes is just as exposed as the servers. Many people plan on taking the tapes or drives off-site but that rarely happens and if it does, they have just exposed their data to other elements now that it is outside of their premises.
